For bedroom diorama ideas and accessories, I usually have a look in cheap shops, art and craft shops, and fabric shops regularly, including places like China town and spotlight. It is amazing what you can find if you examine items with the 1/6 th scale in mind. The following are some ideas for bedroom accessories – these are things I have seen elsewhere (e.g. on internet) or thought of myself.
Side Tables:
Pencil holders from Target and Office works are great bedside tables – I could not take off the sticker on the bottom of my Target ones so I just cut a felt square as a table top cover. Other finds have been mini chests of drawers in the right size or a candle holder with a small craft mirror on top. Drink coasters on top of candle holders also work.
Lamps:
You can use floor lamps from doll house size, or just use Barbie accessories or make your own. I have used napkin rings, put foam in the center, and balanced atop a door stop from a hardware store. I have also seen others use door handles upside down with a cardboard or wood round piece screwed in and a paper lamp shade (pattern available from ) The crystal looking one below is a photo holder holding a napkin ring available in Kmart at Xmas – I put gold wire through the holes a couple of times, then used the photo holder to grip the wire.
Rugs/Carpets:
All rugs I have used tend to be place mats from Spotlight or Target. You could just use fabric e.g. winter fabric or fur that is not too thick, as short fur will be a better scale. Some people I have seen use a printout photo of a rug.
Miscellaneous:
I always look in ladies cosmetics sections, places selling “nic nacs” or those basket places and also Oxfam for a variety of pieces like mini photo frames, little fancy boxes and mini sculpture or decorative pieces. I always buy small inexpensive items just in case. Or, when I have a future project in mind, so often I find good bits n pieces to add to the room like a chest or sculpture or even a stray teddy for the bed.
