Another Look at a Kenmore Kitchen
or
My Kenmore kitchen is finally done - by Marna
|
It seems like I've been decorating this for years, but I finally have it finished. I have it on a built-in shelf that's only about 11X32, so it's not that big. Here are LOTS of pics (without the dolls in yet)
This is just a general view of the whole thing. It was going to be a super modern kitchen until I put the fireplace in & that sort of changed the feeling of it.
I thought that the whole thing should be higher because it's the same size as the dolls, so I put it up on 1 inch wood blocks. I used real wood dollhouse flooring which I put a layer of shellac on. The mat & the dish towel on the refrigerator are just pieces of a black washcloth.
I used more dollhouse flooring for the backsplash, & used mosaic tiles for the countertops. Everything is held in place with museum putty, so it's all removable when I want to redecorate. Which won't be for a hundred years.
I put plants & some decorative things on top of the appliances to raise the height even more. The piece of agate I just picked up in Hawaii, & I put together the plants from some cost plus baskets I painted black & leaves from other plants. I was going to paint the turquoise "glass" panels, but I put some primer on them & thought it looked like milk glass & decided to leave it that way.
The only reason I'm glad that doll gloves look like kitchen mitts:
I made the island out of the bottom of a Gloria playset I painted it black & then glued a piece of wood on top of. The feet are small jewelry boxes I painted black.
OK, this is the final picture. This is the fireplace & table side of the room. The "fire" in the fireplace sort of determined the color scheme, so I put some orange mosaic tiles across the front to bring the color in more. I wish I could raise the chairs & table about an inch, but I can't think of a way to do it. Anybody think of something I can put on the bottom of the legs? The table against the wall has a bunch of re-ment & some small glass things I picked up on ebay.
My girls will be having a special celebration in the kitchen, so you will be getting another post with many more pictures. Like it or not.
