The Room with a View by DeeinNJ
(October 2005)Hello, Diorama Divas!
This week, I’ll be a bit more brief in my discussion, but I hope the info will be of value to you.
Last week I discussed different backdrops for photography or display. Last on the list was Clea Bella’s Room with a View. This is a folding room/stage set with gold shadow striped fabric on one side and a brick fabric on the other. The walls are magnetic so you can affix different art, sconces, props, etc. You can find it here: http://www.cleabella.com/RoomWithView.html
The magnetic surface is not only great for artwork, but it’s also great for tacking up backdrops for taking photos, such as scrapbook paper or computer printouts, just use magnets and snap away. Switch as often as you like. It also comes with magentized baseboard and crown moulding that can be used as window sills, chair rails, etc. in your photos.
The set also includes a great fabric “wooden” floor and stage curtains and flats. The floor is also sold separately as is a “gravel” textured floor which I use for beach scenes. These floors are nice and large, so you can do an entire scene and not run out of space.
Another nice thing about this set is the height of the walls. At 20 inches, you can drape fabric over the top for different backdrops, or, if you are shooting a scene, put your “window” scene up with magnets, then drape fabric over the top on either side of the scene to make a window. Here, I put up the Paris rooftops scene, used the magnetic crown moulding as a window sill and draped white fabric on either side of the Paris scene to make a realistic window:
The display stores flat in a box when not in use, and folds to different sizes and configurations for display. Other backdrops are also available. The room is sized for 10” through 16” fashion dolls.
If you collect 16” dolls, Clea Bella has other in-scale props you can use with this set, such as chairs, a fireplace, etc. I collect only 11 1/2 - 12” dolls, and it’s been working great for me.
You can use the set to make a stage — here Vero visits the Moulin Rouge —
Or for room displays. The following photos I took using the Room with a View as my backdrop. Because it folds to 50+ inches wide, there’s lots of room for props and furnishings. Use the gold side for a boutique, an boudoir, a sitting room, or lounge. Use the brick side for a loft apartment, a rock band stage/backdrop, a nightclub, an art gallery, a photo studio or a city street. Or anything your imagination can think up!
Hope this info has been useful. We’re always looking for interesting ideas for display... what are YOURS?
