DIORAMA DISCUSSION: What's in store for 2007

Board Administrator
Happy 2007, everyone! After a brief hiatus, the Diorama Discussions are back and we have some changes planned for the new year.
First, for those who aren't familiar with the Diorama Discussions, Doll Divas hosts this special topic every other Tuesday. I (DeeinNJ) discuss all things diorama related (and sometimes not!). Check with us on our scheduled Diorama days and see what's new.
If you've missed some Diorama Discussions in the past, you can always go to the Diorama Divas link at the top of the Doll Divas page and look through lots of inspirational topics and view photos and how-tos so you can create the perfect little surroundings for your dolls.
I want to start off the year by thanking all of those who contributed to past Diorama Discussions. My special thanks to the following guest hosts:

I also want to extend an extra-special thank-you to Diva Details (Audrey) because she has done so much to contribute to our Diorama Discussions this year (photos from Create a Boutique Window & Getting Creative with Desk Accessories).

Because of her awesome creativity, knack for perfectionism and unending patience, DIVA DETAILS WILL NOW BE MY OFFICIAL CO-HOST FOR THE DIORAMA DISCUSSIONS in 2007, so look for more great topics from her this year. We can't wait to show you more fun stuff.Debi (Building a Window Seat)

And Marna (Another Look at a Kenmore Kitchen)

They also have topics archived in the Diorama Divas link and I thank them for sharing their ideas on the Doll Divas board so we could archive their great work.
Speaking of sharing, this year, we want board members to share their diorama-related photos, news and ideas more than ever. So, we're creating a special day here at Doll Divas where YOU can all be guest hosts (of a sort). In 2007, one Tuesday per month will be the traditional Diorama Discussion hosted by myself, Diva Details or another special guest, while the alternately scheduled Tuesday of that month will be an Open Discussion.
Open Discussion is a new feature for 2007. We'll start a Diorama Discussion thread, then we ask you all to share your photos and finds underneath this thread. You may recall back in October when we were attending the Fashion Royalty Convention that we invited members to post in our absence. Well, what a surprise to see a never-ending list of amazing diorama-related posts. This told us that YOU ALL have some fabulous stuff to share and now we've created a special theme day and a place for you to share it so we'll all know where to look when we want a diorama fix!
WE WANT YOU TO POST PICS OF OR WRITE IDEAS ABOUT:
Your dolls in cool settings (like these gals at the office)
![]()
Cool items youve found while shopping (like this cabinet for under $7 from Walmart)
![]()
How you use playline (here the gals hang out at the Bratz Ski Lodge)
![]()
How you take playline a step further with new paint, upholstery and more
![]()
Where you find the greatest little furnishings or accessories (from Rement to fridge magnets)
![]()
Rooms you create for your dolls
![]()
Props you use to add pizzazz to your photos (I love this shoji screen)
![]()
How you recycle trash into treasure (like this fashion runway from a doll box)
![]()
Photos of how you display your dolls in your doll room (wish I had a doll room!)
How to craft miniatures, props, furnishings, decor and or rooms
Or anything else that relates to dolls and their little world
Don't be shy! We're counting on you to contribute so we all will have a great time reading the posts. And, you can post photos you've posted before, take new photos or share links to websites that you know about that have cool pics or stuff to use or make.
Don't be afraid also to ask questions of fellow boardmembers who will (we hope) all jump in to answer. Want to know where to buy something, what paint to use or what measurements you might need; feel free to ask!
Also, if you've completed a project or have a how-to that would make a great Diorama Discussion feature, e-mail me at the above e-mail and you could be one of our guest hosts!
Here's a schedule for the next few months of Diorama Discussions:
January 30 - Diorama Discussion feature
February 13 - Diorama Discussion – Open Forum! - share your stuff
February 27 - Diorama Discussion feature
March 13 - Diorama Discussion - Open Forum!
March 27 - Diorama Discussion featureFor today, I'll close with a quickie project that's so easy, everyone can do it.
First, get yourself a piece of Basic Grey Motifica paper in the Stucco pattern (12" x 12" size). It is heavyweight paper, so it's nice and sturdy. You can find it at Michaels by the sheet or you can check your neighborhood scrapbook store or search online.
Use a ruler and a knife, empty ballpoint pen or a scoring tool to score the paper at three-inch intervals. Now, you'll have four, three-inch panels. Accordian fold on the score lines, then cut a slit in the top of the first and last panel and drape a little tassel through the slits. If you don't have a tassel, use other decorative ribbon or fibers, or make your own tassel.
Here's a photos of a gorgeous fashion by Tallulahbelle that's featured in the current issue of FDQ magazine. Just beside her is what your folding screen will look like when finished. It's a great "Old World" look. Hope you can make one, too!

OK - that's it for now. We'll be back in two weeks with another Diorama Discussion!
