| Hi, Gang…
I know it’s been a while since I’ve hosted a Diorama Discussion myself, but with all of the talented folks here on the boards, I have been trying to showcase some of THEIR amazing work and give a fresh perspective on projects and dioramas instead of my usual thing. If you have a diorama or prop-related project that you feel would be great for a future Diorama Discussion, just e-mail me with your ideas and or photos. We’re always looking for something to share in this great resource for diorama junkies! However, now it’s my turn again and today I am not providing instructions for crafting anything fancy, I’ve just shot some photos with props I’ve assembled to make a Hollywood boudoir for our starlet… Vanessa Perrin, who by the way, IS leading a fashionable life. I hope this inspires you to make use of your furnishings and miniature goodies, not to mention doll packaging! OK, here we go. Vanessa is in her room prepping for the premier of her latest picture. Well wishers have sent her roses, candy and champagne to celebrate, and she’s taking quick advantage of the bubbly before she has to get ready.
Here’s an overview of Vanessa’s little cozy place. The walls are Bella Productions’ Room with a View. Because of the magnetic walls, it’s easy to attach things like art, sconces, curtains, etc. More on that later.
The flooring is just marble printed card stock from the scrapbook store. Someday I will glue this up properly, but until then, I just scattered it on the floor under the scene (you can even seen the sheets of paper if you look closely- shame on me!) The bed is from the Fashion Royalty Loft Collection with linens from a variety of sources, including Bashette. I used the fur comforter from the FR Loft Surreal Comfort luxury bedding set as a rug instead. To recess the bed into the wall, I used two white boxes from Monsieur Z’s Summer Babes collection on either side of the bed. I then attached the artwork to each box with wax dots so I could easily remove it. The lucite tables at the foot of the bed and beside the bed are from Style in Scale furniture (by our very own Jenn Hatt). These tables come in assorted sizes and can be nested for a very cool look.
Here’s a closer look at one of the side tables. Although it’s modern, it works just as well in this retro setting. This lamp was made from some beads, but does the job. The ashtray is a small abalone shell with beads glued on for feet and the telephone is from this year’s BFMC Hollywood Honey accessory set. The cigarette and case came with Flirtatious Vero FR (Don’t mind the tippy cigarette lighter in this shot… oh, well… DD outtakes!... shoulda used tacky dots!)
Here’s a close-up of the table at the foot of the bed. The chocolates also came from the Hollywood Honey set, the vase is a My Scene vase with dollar store flowers added. The Champagne bucket is from the Gloria diningroom set and the Champagne came with the FR LOFT coffee table.
After a sip of champagne, Vanessa decides to kick off her slippers and kill some time reading what the critics are saying about her latest role. She’s lounging on the bed with a few movie mags from the Hollywood Honey accessory set. Her fan (a fridge magnet) keeps her cool.
As Vanessa lounges, lets take a look at her dressing table….
Here I’ve used the magnetic LA windows from Bella Productions with some sheer drapes over top. I used a small metal rod normally used for door sidelights. I stuck magnets to the rod and they cling right to the walls. The tasseled tie backs are bookmark tassels from the craft store. The bench is from a My Scene set, but I don’t recall where the rug is from. The vanity is from the Mary Kate & Ashley dressing room set and you may have seen me use this before. I painted it black and added details with metallic Galaxy markers. I dyed the skirt with Rit dye and sewed on the black/gold braided trim along the hemline. I left off the mirror that came with the dressing table and instead used this lovely beveled mirror from Style in Scale furniture. What an improvement!
Vanessa is done flipping through her movie mags and is ready to primp. Notice that pesky cigarette lighter on the night table has miraculously uprighted itself, but the ones on her vanity are still askew! She just needs to check her hair and apply a spritz of perfume. Her make-up is already perfect.
Well, I guess that covers it. Hope you enjoyed visiting Vanessa’s Hollywood Boudoir and it inspires some of your own diorama projects! Til next time,
