Let's see your pics or hear your ideas, tips or questions.Til next time,
DeeinNJHighlights from May 8th:
SusanK: I found two perfect "lighting" options for two of the levels of my dollhouse/diorama cabinet. First, an easy-peasy option. I used the "warmer" lights from the Bratz diner to make some perfect pendant lamps for my kitchen (which is still not quite finished, so ignore the starkness). I used some little silver Barbie plates as the fixtures and glued them in with crazy glue. The cords for the lamps are from a cheapie pair of headphones from the dollar store, and I had Jack drill a small hole in each lamp's "stem" and then we glued them in:

The next project is more elaborate. I needed an impressive chandelier for the grand ballroom of my diorama cabinet (it's on the bottom level and will provide great display area for dolls in gowns). First, I already had a couple of small chandeliers (formerly Christmas ornaments), but they were too small for what I had in mind (although look great over a dining room table or in a smaller room):
But then I found this candle holder-thingee at Michael's, which hangs off of its own stand:
It looks great and is the right scale for my ballroom, but it's so angular and modern looking (plus there isn't anything on it that actually looks like *lighting*--just crystals hanging off a frame). And that tea-candle holder in the middle is soldered on. Jack actually had the idea to put one of my ornament chandeliers on top of the larger "chandelier". He removed the tea candle holder piece from the bottom, using a hacksaw. Then I affixed one of the ornaments to the frame using fine wire, and painted the gold chandelier silver (I would have preferred to make the whole thing gold, but I would have had to remove every hanging crystal and also paint all of the jump rings and I just wasn't up for it!). The large round rings that the chains attach to are definitely un-lovely, but I think the effect will still work when it is hanging in the ballroom, even if it is not perfect:

Of course, my chandelier won't be hanging off the silver stand when it's in my ballroom! LOL Maybe I can hang bananas off of it. I bought a second one at Michael's ($9.00 CDN) and am contemplating making one in gold when I have time, using the other Christmas ornament pictured earlier.
Sheila in CA: Been working on Vero's French kitchen for quite a while and it's almost done! My DH was a huge help with this project...(he's an Angel). Primary color used for the kitchen is (what else) French Blue. Note the backlit window. Curtains were made using some old lace from a napkin. The end caps for the curtain rod are made of shot for a bee bee gun, LOL, and a wooden dowel. The window is playscale size (1:6). urse, my chandelier won't be hanging off the silver stand when it's in my ballroom! LOL Maybe I can hang bananas off of it. I bought a second one at Michael's ($9.00 CDN) and am contemplating making one in gold when I have time, using the other Chri
All Pictures were backed with card stock using spray adhesive.
I found this fab cabinet on Evilbay. It's a Franklin Mint collector item and came with all the pewter that you see on the shelves. It's 1:6 scale...perfect for FR and Silkie! The cabinet was painted French Blue by the amazing DH.

This is the Kenmore Kitchen with some added touches. The blue marble counter top is scrapbook paper from Michael's. The tile backsplash over the stove is a pic culled from the internet. The food is rement and the cookware is from 'Barbie Cooks" set.

Picture frame that I painted and trimmed in gold.
Sindy dining table repainted gloss white. Chair seat covers are fabric glued on card with spray adhesive. The vase is Moorcroft enamel. The place mats were cut out with a patterned edge and painted with white acrylic paint.
Plants are great for corners and adding little pebbles helps stabilize the plant...painted pots are great for added color! The little cats were formerly Christmas ornaments and the flooring is actually embossed wallpaper for a more real look.(You can purchase it at Lowe's)
Veroniques feels right at home in her new kitchen!
Veronique thanks you for visiting!
Sushipurple: My recent super simple diorama...inside Isha's New York apartment. Nothing was hard to make, and I have lots of FR boxes to use as walls. (I love these boxes, I've got to admit!) I used a candle holder with glass from the Randall Craig table sitting on top. The fireplace was from ebay, I spray painted it white. The chair on right was a photo holder, the left are some scented pillows from Target's candle dept.

The "circle with logs" is a dollhouse prop. I printed out the "posters" from a site online and used those thick white pieces of cardboard inside RC fashions as a frame of sorts. I cut out the picture of Sinatra from a Barbie box but didn't finish the poster before taking pictures. (doh) The topiary was a gift made by my buddy Thunderella/Carol. The bench "outside" on the patio is from Micheals. It's really a candle holder. The black sofa is FR with it's original pillows. The scene is set up on my living room table, the one I always use for doll stuff. I like how the wood looks almost like a real floor.

Kelsie - MutantGoldfishDesigns: Cassy's Loft -- Hi Diva's and Divo's...We haven't had time to do any more work on it but I will give you the tour again. This is the living room:
This is where I eat, we might add a microwave for popcorn, but that would be
about it, let's face it I don't cook (hehe):
TA-DAAAAAA...We are putting in a sky light!!!
Notice the loft bedroom, we have some seriously cool plans for this space. That is all I am going to tell ya *giggles* Here's how to make the shelves:
Thnx for stopping by!
PS in Mi: Bedroom Diorama Scene....This is a bed I made from a Ralph Lauren advertisement. The chair is from Joann's. The bedside table is a candle holder with mirror (turned upside down) on top. I made the cheese and crackers from polymer clay.
Lisa B in TX: New kitchen with the Reading table/chairs...First - enjoyed everyone's diorama pics !! Can't remember if I posted this here or not! (The brain is the first thing to go, huh?) It all started with getting the Reading kitchen table/chairs set. The wallpaper is scrapbook paper.
It took me forever to figure out the windows - and I don't know why, it was easy. I did a web/image search for window frame and for backyard. I printed the window frame on card stock and just used an exacto knife to cut out the "panes". I used tranparency film for the glass.

A lot of the kitchen goods are just "labels" printed on cardstock.
I just did a web/image search of a tile mural for the backsplash to the stove.
