| OK, so the day is not young and it leaves little time to get you all participating in today's Open Forum day. So, I'm giving everyone a heads up. We'll postpone today's open forum day until next week and that will give you one week to take or unearth pics you've taken of your dioramas featuring playline furniture!
That's right. Show us one piece or an entire room where you use playline props. They can be right outta the box or repainted and restyled. From Barbie to My Scene to Gloria... we want to see it next week. Post your stuff and let us know how you customized if you did so. It's more fun when you can add props on the cheap! Let's get rockin' and see all of your playline props! Here's a little sample, our rocker hangs out with props from Barbie's Jam n Glam tour and the Real Friends Rock stage. I spray painted the amplifiers black and added the knobs with Galaxy markers. I elevated the stage with inserts from FRs Loft Collection and added my own backdrop of scrapbook paper. OK, see ya next week, |

| OK, today I asked you to take or round up your pics featuring playline pieces as props. Straight from the box... painted or upholstered, big or small we want to see what you are doing with playline. This is from my archives, so apologies to those who've seen it before. This was the My Scene Dressing Room playset. I repainted the pieces white/gold and added lots of playline jars and bottles. I also replaced the red patterned curtain with a white one.The chair to the desk is also playline... from Mary Kate & Ashley's dressing room set. OK, let's see your stuff! |

A few highlights from Nov. 6:
Valmaxi: Here are some of my playline props: My Careval's Beauty Salon has some pieces from the Target exclusive Beauty Shop and some from the MyScene Beauty Shop. The chenille sofa is a MyScene plastic sofa, covered in chenille (hot glued on). The coffee table is MyScene, painted with Krylon spray paint.

This is a Gloria fireplace, that was repainted and Caren grouted with tile:

Val in Cal: Mine are straight from the box, as I have no artistic ability at all, lol!!!

Kelsie - MutantGoldfishDesigns: Some playline makeovers. The very first make over I did was the couch from my daughters Victorian Barbie Dollhouse:
Before

During
Complete
Then there was a random yellow Barbie bookshelf from the "toy store" set I think...
Before

After

I get a LOT of use out of this piece now it is not bright yellow.
This is my newest made-over piece of playline furniture..The wicker couch from my conservatory.
I gave it a quick coat of antique white for a more realistic look and added a cushion as I got it on ebay without one...The table was also painted the same color, it was originally the blue side table from the My Scene's Party Pad.

Of course, I have to post before and after pix of my diningroom set :)
As much as I love pink, this was a little much even for me lol

Holly inspects my work

Debi: Here are a few of mine: These first pieces are from the My Scene Party Pad. I repainted the sofa and the window. Then replaced the cardboard wallcoverings with scrap book paper. I still need to find an outdoor picture to put behind the window to make it more real looking.
Here is some more of the Fashion Fever pieces. Notice the Fashion Fever purple sofa. I simply took off the purple fabric and then left the cushion. And painted it white. I use the Kylon spray paints for most things. I painted the footrest white to match the sofa. Also painted the computer desk, chair and end table black to make it a little more realistic looking instead of those crazy colors.

Tink: Had two big ones for the guy's bathroom...since it is my best repaint to date;)
This was the bright, hot pink set.
Had to borrow a pics for the before

Nise: I did some painting too :0

Audrey of Diva Details: Here are a few of my repainted playline pieces: First up is an ottoman from one of the My Scene playsets. (Loved those -- so sad they stopped producing them.) The original color was red (as seen on the left), but I decided it needed to be black instead:
Here's that repainted ottoman in a scene. It's the third diorama I ever did, and I dubbed it 'Kurt's Den'. The ottoman is on the bottom right. A My Scene floor lamp in the far left side of the setting (formerly dark brown with a green shade) was repainted pewter with an off white shade instead.
Here's another My Scene playset ottoman. This time, the entire piece was originally aqua, including the legs. I painted the seat off white, the legs gold and added a strip of gold trim to give it a little more pizazz. Now, it's posh pooch perch:
In this photo, I used two playline props, though you really can't see much of either one. The main piece is one half of the wall unit from the My Scene Dressing Room playset (as seen in Dee's Spa Scene diorama). I left the shelves as is, but painted the shelf supports and trim gold, painted the main part of the structure off white and added doll wallpaper in various places where the stickers would have been. Just off to the left in the photo, I repainted a flask holder from one of the (Magic Spells?) series of dolls that came out several years ago. The holder I used was originally a royal blue-ish and came with a small plastic flask insert for mixing drinkable "potions". When I saw it, however, the first thing I thought of was free standing floor vase or accent table (hence, the addition of a small, beveled edge, hexagon-shaped mirror).
Last but not least, the vanity and chair in this setting are part of a Gloria set called 'Pretty', which I believe was originally white with pink or pink with pink with cheezy gold chrome accents.
This entire set-up (furniture, lamp, folding screen, etc.) was specially created as part of a Winter Swap package I did a couple of years ago. I had a hard time letting go of the vanity and chair once I was done, and I've since promised myself that I'd paint another set some day for my own collection. (Right. When pigs fly.)
A tip for the newbies: When I'm shopping for playline furniture, I seldom look at the piece (s) for what it is, but rather, what it has the potential to become. The only things I notice are the scale and the style. Don't allow yourself to be put off by ghastly colors and/or cartoonish stickers. If you don't like what you see, a little bit of creativity can go a loooong way.
Kerstin: Playline furniture in the Silkie's apartment: I re-painted most of them so the Silkies wouldn´t know. They´re such snobs!
The window section and arm chair are from My Scene´s Party Pad, and the vanity stool is vintage Sindy´s.

This is my favorite room, it´s so cozy!
I haven´t decided what color I should paint the couch in, the rest of the furniture are spraypainted black. I used a paint that´s for door steps on cars, to keep the rust away, and it gets a nice, a little rough structure.
I had no idea it would turn out like that, it was the only black spray paint we had in the house at that time, and I was too inpatienced to go and buy any!
Caren: Here are some of mine: This was the Gloria fireplace, painted, with hand cut marble pieces set in grout. A very long process, but I really enjoyed the results so much! I have done several for friends on the board and this is one I kept. The marble is shades of mauve, beige and pink.

I think this was a My Scene piece, I painted and upholsterd on the inside. Looks SO nice! I still have this shop up I loved it so much from years ago....seems like forever....sigh.....

Here was the Gloria bar I customized to create my "Sky Bar"

Robin in OK: Some of My Playline! : ) All Natural!!! : )

Stephiejo: Some of my repainted furniture pieces: I have much, much more but I don't think my son will nap long enough for me to take new pics today so here are some from the archives...
Former My Scene makeup cabinet-now a Silkstone purse display~

An older playline dining cabinet refinished to coordinate with new playline pieces & FR Loft pieces~

A kitchen island made from the My Scene Makeup counter-

LMH in Az: Here's one I found at a thrift store: It was in a baggie for 99 cents, and it was 1/2 off day, so I paid 50 cents for all three. I panted them and made cushions for them.
