Hi everyone, this is my first post. I've been admiring the diorama work here since a friend sent me the Topiaries and Hedges tutorial last spring.
I fused two smaller trees, because the branches of the 16 inch trees are too big in scale. I bent the branches around so they would each be half of the tree. This is the view from above. I removed one of the bases, and lined them up so that one is higher up than the other to get the height. Then wired the trunks together with green craft wire. Then I bent the branches around so they're even and nice again. This picture shows the scale, he's 11-5/8 inches tall. Sorry he's not very Christmassy. I never seem to have a model or a set ready when I need to photograph a project. Now it's ready for lights. These are rice lights. I put the wires down the back of the tree and then bent the branches over them to hide them. You might like L.E.D. lights better however, for fewer wires and much longer battery life. The ornaments are the fun part. I used craft store berries and beads. You'll need wire cutters and needle-nosed pliers.
The butterflies you see on the finished tree are from the scrapbooking department. They have little wires that I wrapped around the branches. Voila! It's done. Put on the Christmas CDs and stop your dolls' pets from biting the ornaments!
