| Hi, Gang Here's where you'll be posting entries to our Copy Cat Diorama Contest. The premise of the contest is to select a photo from a catalog or magazine of a setting, then recreate it in 1/6 scale. From all entries, I will choose one or two winners at random (depending on the number of entries). I will announce winner(s) some time tomorrow. You have until Midnight today Divas Time to post your entry. Entries should be typed as follows: ENTRY - Your Name or ID - "Title if you choose to have one" Inside, the entry should include the inspiration photo, as well as one or more photos of your diorama. Write whatever you like about your entry and how you created it. The source for the inspiration photo is not required, but would be nice! Be sure to include your e-mail address. I can't wait to see what you've all whipped up. Good luck! DeeiNJ |

| Well, I was glad I decided to do a random drawing for winners instead of having to judge those entries! The efforts were amazing and the results even more so. I am so thrilled that we have such diorama enthusiasts here at Doll Divas. Everyone on this board truly enjoyed drooling over all of those copy cat rooms. I had trouble telling some from the real thing! Since we had more than 10 entries, I am awarding two prize packages containing items generously donated by Laure, Scribs, Tula, Jill and me (DeeinNJ). Every entrant received a number, then, I put all of the numbers into an online "random number generator." Those whose names matched the numbers in the first two spots were the winners of our prize packages. Without further ado, they are: PRIZE PACK #1 - Nilsa in CA/Victorian Inspired - A Red Carpet Essentials accessory set complete with handmade jewels, wrap, gloves, purse, Oscar poster, program, invitation, and award envelope, red carpet, red carpet backdrop and Walk of Fame star -Fashion Royalty Fashion Spectacular Accessory Set -Miniature tea set -Amazing Harlequin Print chair by Tula! -Miniature camera on tripod from this year's Barbie convention PRIZE PACK #2 - Debi/Wild & Color Livingroom - A compact jewelry storage system to house and organize all of your 1/6- scale doll's fabulous jewels. -Fashion Royalty Convention exclusive Flaming Royalty fashion NRFB -Going Public Eugenia's (FR) jumpsuit - A collection of miniature handmade perfume bottles - Randall Craig Doll Divas exclusive yellow poodle Congrats to both of our winners and my thanks to everyone who participated for their great contributions. WINNERS, PLEASE E-MAIL ME YOUR MAILING ADDRESS! |
I have to say this is one of the best and most fun contests I have ever entered! Thanks Dee for such a creative idea. Okay..I used the two chairs and the rug from my RC living room. The tables I made from balsa wood and dowels and then painted them. The vases and glasses were Barbie pieces I had laying around. I made the pillows and curtain out of scraps of fabric that best matched the photos although not perfectly. And the hardest part of all was the sofa. I built it out of layers of balsa wood. Then tryed to cover it with leather. But none of the glue products I tried would work. So I went with pins to look like apolstry tacks. It worked!! Although, again its not exactly like the photo I was happy with the end result. I used empty ribbon spools to hold the sofa up. Oh..and for the art on the wall behind the sofa I found a perfect match on the cover of a notebook. I was delighted with it! Just needed to stick some magnets on it and post to the room with a view. |
Hello there! The chair is regular playline that I painted a long time ago. After placing some padding ( a piece of cloth) I wrapped a fabric ribbon and secured it with scotch tape. The vases are from Re-ment. The green "plants" are styrofoam balls with moss painted green. A toothpick was used for the steam. Hope you like it!! |
Other Entries: Only 2 or 3 pics are shown for each - the inspiration and final result
I picked this picture from a catalog I saw in a hardware store as my inspiration. (Sorry for the quality as I used my phone camera to take the picture) And this is what I created.... (I made the chairs, with wire, cardboard, cloth and stuffing) Then I added a couple of plants, ladies and extra accessories... Hershey |

I found my inspiration photo on hgtv.com. Left is inspiration room, right is copy cat room.![]() I made the headboard out of sculpey clay squeezed through a cookie press. I sewed the pillows, table is from Gloria fireplace set. The lamp is a fan pull body, paper shade from internet wallpaper sample I rescaled. Clock is just a picture of a clock glued to foamboard. Candle is a piece of glue from glue gun. Here is where I embelished since the rest of the room is not showing. The chandelier is rivets, gasket, little flower pots and beads...I kept this one simple because it kept falling apart! Thanks for looking and I can't wait to see the rest of the entries! |

Hi Everyone - Here's a photo from the William Haines book - "Class Act". The original is of course, in black and white, so I took liberty with the colors. Here is my interpretation of the room. ![]() Thanks for looking, Maryann :] |
I searched the net for living rooms, and found this beautiful, sunny room: ![]() Here´s my version: |
| Hi Everyone, I’d first like to introduce myself. My name is Edith and I live in Denver, Colorado. I have been a lurker for some time but have never had the courage or resources (namely time, money and talent ) to post, but I have always enjoyed seeing all the talent on this board. I love this forum and Diorama Divas has to be my favorite part since I love miniatures. This contest sounded so fun I just couldn’t resist. Thanks Dee for such a great idea!! I chose a picture from a book called “The New Apartment Book” by Michele Michael. I had received it as a gift for my first place so I thought it was fitting. I liked this picture because it seemed simple, but was colorful and had lots of little accessories that I could make or buy fairly cheap. Directly below the picture from the book is my entry. However, I also included a little photo story because I couldn’t help myself and then details are at the bottom for those interested. I always appreciate when people share how they came up with their ideas and how they did something on this board so I tried to do the same, though I can’t say there is anything particularly spectacular here but in case anyone is curious . . . This is my first completed diorama and photo story so I am very excited, and I now truly appreciate how much time and effort goes into even a simple diorama. All of you Diorama Divas are amazing!! My camera is a little cheapie one and I didn’t have time or talent enough to photo edit, other than lighting up the pictures and cropping so they are amateur at best. Thanks for looking (just please don’t look too closely at all the imperfections) and I hope you enjoy!! ![]() ![]() Details: -Walls are foam core covered with tissue paper since I could not find foam core or construction board of the right color. Floor is foam core covered with contact paper. -Paintings on the wall were scanned directly from the book and printed on photo paper with a high resolution. Frames are from a local dollhouse miniature shop (I couldn’t scan the third picture as it was on the crease and the miniature shop only had two frames left so I just had to go with the two rather than three.) -Coffee table is made out of foam core top covered in a pattern printed from Microsoft Publisher on photo paper, the legs are table legs found in the miniature shop and the bottom of the legs are those eyehole things. -Sofa was made with Styrofoam and batting covered in muslin. -Pillows, sofa and chair covers and rug were handmade. -Lamp stand was made with a dowel, a wheel base and beading, then painted gold. Lamp shade was made from plastic sheeting covered in fabric. Template for lamp shade, boxes and shopping bags (some were slightly adjusted in Publisher) are from Jim’s Printable minis at http://www.printmini.com/printables/pp.shtml - great site!! -Oranges were made with fimo -Books were scanned from personal collection, printed on photo paper in high resolution and glued to Styrofoam -Candleholders were made with jewelry findings and buttons. Candles are beads. -Vase and bowl are wooden miniatures found at Michael’s and painted, all other miniatures are Rement and dollhouse miniatures -Chair was a thrift store find painted in cream (I was really kicking myself that I didn’t buy the Fashion Fever Crystal chair a few years ago as it would have worked perfectly, but this was the closest alternative I had). -Outfits are Mattel, except April’s tan shoes and Mom’s purse which are Integrity and jewelry is handmade. I think that’s it, let me know if you have questions. Thanks again for looking and Good Luck to everyone who entered!!! |
| Inspiration Room (homeanddesign.com by Chris McCray Designs) Our Room Finished ..Kyori made herself at home Everything in the room was made by us - Second Glance and The Green Thumb, with the exception of the books and vases on the bedside tables. We have curtains to hang on the black frame, like shown in the inspiration photo, but we haven't put the tab tops on yet. We hope you enjoyed our Copy Cat photos Mary and Sarah |
Thanks again to all our creative entrants! You are ALL winners in our book!!
