DIORAMA DISCUSSION: A Versailles Salon by Michael Williams/Haute Doll
Part 2 of 2
Both side table are from the GLORIA line of furniture, repainted with
a white gloss top (I was going to "marble" it but didn't
like how that looked) and cream acrylic painted base. The gold
repainted photo frame (depicting French fashion designer Elsa
Schiaparelli) and the gold and white repainted telephone are My Scene
Barbie (I coiled a gold colored wire around a small rod for the
telephone cord). The opera glasses are either from a dollhouse
accessories store or a charm bracelet. The vintage VOGUE magazine
with cover illustration by Rene Gruau was handmade by me.

This side table has a Barbie clear vase and then plastic "crystal" ware and a green plastic Depression-era (?) style candy dish are all from RE-MENT.

I have been getting all my new RE-MENT from Priscilla Wardlow at www.nrfbqueen.com/rement
as she has competitive prices, great selection, fast shipping and
wonderful customer service.
I bought a pair of these little frames (the only ones they had) at a
Brooklyn flea market and repainted their very aged metal a nice
gilded gold. The image actually came in the frame and was perfect for the lovely pastoral scenes I chose for the artwork hung in this salon.

The mirror and credenza were a 2-piece Suzy Goose vanity, but I repainted both (in gold and matte cream paint) and separated them so the mirror hung higher. Here I used it without alteration, but later snipped off the light fixtures to give it a cleaner, more elegant look.

Here's the final version of the mirror and the vanity-turned-credenza is set with Gloria silver chromed champagne bucket and fruit stand; the champagne bottle is Fashion Royalty and the fruit is from a refrigerator magnet I bought over 10 years ago at Lechter's housewares store; the tray, cheese, oyster plate and etched "crystal" candy dish are all RE-MENT; the little silver covered candy dishes were from a dollhouse accessories dealer at the Rothman show in New Jersey; the photo frames are tiny Christmas ornament charms with images of the Duke and Duchess of Windsor; the Barbie logo on the vanity was Photoshopped out.

This little ceramic urn originally had some other silk arrangement in
it, bought at Bed Bath & Beyond;
I used silk ferns bought at a
discounted home decor store.

The faux gold and crystal door knobs are from Tiny Dollhouse in Manhattan, and I used unflavored dental wax to adhere to the printed door.

The mantelpiece of the white repainted Gloria fireplace is adorned with (left to right) a miniature bust (gift from tablemate Eric at the 2007 Fashion Royalty convention); gold repainted Barbie My Scene photo frames depicting the famous Cecil Beaton image of Charles James Dresses, 1948, (courtesy Staley Wise Gallery); the famous model Bettina; Charles Balenciaga; and Coco Chanel on the shoulders of her lover (???). The Balenciaga portrait is in an actual metal dollhouse frame; the rose trinket box at left is RE-MENT Wedgwood; the clock is a dollhouse accessory; the Eiffel Tower statue was made for a charm bracelet; and the silver engraved metal pitcher was from a Brooklyn flea market.

The podium is from a Hobby Lobby store and the vase from Bed Bath & Beyond once held another silk arrangement; I repainted them cream and did a new arrangement with yellow flowers (to match the color of the wall panels) from Michael's craft store and the miniature white clusters and green filler are from Pany Silk Flowers in Manhattan.
